Réseau Inter-universitaire d'Historiens

The Réseau Inter-universitaire d'Historiens (RIH) is an academic network aimed at fostering inter-institutional collaboration and intellectual exchange among young historians. Unlike other disciplines, history lacks a doctoral school or similar institutions allowing PhD students and young researchers in Switzerland to exchange their experience and construct their interpersonal network. The RIH attempts to fill this institutional gap by providing a framework for academic collaboration and exchange as well as for conference presentation and publication opportunities for young historians. The efficiency of such a framework of course depends on the quality of its associate staff. Therefore, the RIH also draws on the knowledge and support from the senior Professors of the associated university departments who will be invited to RIH congresses and seminars as members of the scientific committee, discussant, or keynote speakers.

The creation of RIH in December 2008 was an initiative of PhD students and young Post-doctorate researchers at the History Institute of the University of Neuchâtel and the Economic History Department of Geneva's Economic and Social Sciences Faculty. The network has quickly been extended to include members of the History Department at Geneva's Faculty of Arts. The current Executive committee of the network is composed of members coming from those three institutions. However, continuing expansion to other institutions in Switzerland or elsewhere is a fundamental commitment of this dynamic network.
